1937 Hot Rod
Mike started this project by finding a 1935 front axle and 1937 banjo rear end and after several trips through the woods, on a bicycle, he dragged the front and rear axles and all 4 radius arms home. He then thought, hey I could build a car around this... His first thought was to make a T bucket out of it, so he picked up some 2" X 4" tubing and plans for a T bucket frame. After a lot of measuring we then cut, squared and welded the frame together. The next thing was to get the wheels and axles set in place for a rolling chassis. After we set the front axle and radius arms in place we then needed to fabricate a new cross-member for the rear of the frame and set the banjo rear in place. With the rear in place the radius arms on the original car connected to the transmission cross-member but we wanted them to connect to the frame right behind the front radius arms so we made multiple cut one side of the arm bent it into place and welded the cuts solid. The last things we did were to set the motor, transmission and center cross-member in place and we now had a full rolling chassis.
When it came to the body Mike ended up finding a body down in Long Island it needed a lot of work but the measurements worked with the frame. We replaced a lot of rot on the body with new hand fabricated metal and got the body back in shape. We then needed to frame out the floor with mounts to attach the body to the frame. After setting the body in place and bolting it down to the frame we installed the steering box and steering column which is where we had to stop, the Rat had to go home so Mike can find more cool stuff and when he is ready assemble will begin again. The final stretch was the longest and you keep the faith brother, she is done!!!!!!
